Our Coach
When
you think of one of the greatest high school athletes to ever run track
and field, the name Roy "Robot" Martin comes to mind. Robot
set the 200 meter national high school record 20.13 which still stands
as the national high school record according to Track & Field News.
Coach Martin is also a 2 time Olympian, qualifying
in 1984 and 1988. Robot spent his high school day running for Dallas Roosevelt
where he was the 5A state champ in the 200 in 1983, 1984, and 1985. The
only male athlete to win the 200 three years in a row. While in high school,
Roy qualified to run at the Olympic Trials. Roy is still the only male
to ever win Track and Field News High School Athlete of the Year twice.
He did that feat in 1984 and 1985.
In 2000, Roy was inducted into the National
Black Hall of Fame.
Roy Martin brings years of experience to
our track club. He has done it all...State Champion, National Champion...Olympian!!!
*Dallas native: 1985 graduate of Dallas Roosevelt High School.
*1984 and 1988 Olympian.

*Only athlete to win the 200 Meter for three years.
*Only two-time “Athlete of the year according to Track and Field
News.
*First athlete ever in high school history to run in the 1984 U.S. Olympic
Trials @ age of 17.
*The first fastest time @200 Meters by a high school athlete _ 20.00 at
the age of 17.
*Voted Texas Relay’s “Outstanding Athlete” twice as
a high school male.
*First man to ever capture :Outstanding Athlete “award twice in
the 39 years of Track and Field News.
*In the 100 Meter he had a time of 10.18 which was second to Houston’s
McTears. High School record of 10.16 and 10.21 giving him two of the top
four time ever.
*In the 200 Meters had a time of 20.00 twice giving a strong hold on the
high school record.
*Ran on the 4x100 relay and set a high school record time 40.31,Roosevelt
team had 3 of the top eleven times ever World/Nation.
*Ran an anchor leg time of 43.45 or faster and was 3-time State Champion.
*Nationally known as ALL_Time Prep.Athlete.
*Roosevelt High School’s Track team was the first ever to be named
“Outstanding Team with times of 40.3 in the 4x100 Meter.
*IN 1985, Roy ran the fastest time ever in the 200 Meter in high school
history with the time of 19.74 breaking the World Olympic Record set in
1964 in Mexico. Senior Year
Set the National High School record (20)seconds flat.
*In 2000 was inducted into the National Black Hall of Fame.
